Merry Christmas from The Hollyfield Music Department!

In A Level Government and Politics, 67% of grades were A-A*, in Philosophy, 80% of grades were A*-B. and in A Level Maths, 72% of students achieved A*-B grades.  In BTEC subjects, 43% students achieved Distinction to Distinction* and 80% achieved Distinction* to Merit. In BTEC Media, 83% students achieved Distinction* or Distinctions which is superb.

There was Oxbridge success again, as Elliott Forey achieved a place at Oxford University to read Law. Elliott  secured A*A B, including an A* in Economics. He says that he developed a real interest in politics, philosophy and morality during his A Levels and that he is excited about the chance to study at a top university, with some of the best teachers and lecturers in the world. Elliott wants to thank Mr Warren and Mr Humm for all that they’ve done to support him. Six students have now secured places at Oxford University in the past four years from Hollyfield Sixth Form.  

Two students have earned places to study prestigious Medicine courses this year.  Heather Augustin, who achieved  A*, A, A  in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, will study Medicine at Southampton University. Heather said that she feels a little overwhelmed today, but has worked really hard and is delighted with her results (especially the A*). She knows from her work as a volunteer that doctors help the most vulnerable people and can change their lives for the better. Emma Kempster, who achieved grades of AAA in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, will study Medicine at Queen Mary’s University. Emma said that she was drawn to medicine because she likes helping people. She wanted to thank the Sixth Form team and Miss Cunningham, who has taught her Science since Year 7, for helping to make this dream come true.

There was continued success in the STEM subjects, where Magnus Cochrane has won a place at Warwick University to study Mathematics after after achieving A*, A*, A in Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics.  Magnus said that studying at Warwick is something of a family tradition. He is proud of the results he achieved, which proved that his hard work and determination paid off.  Botond Gracza, will study Statistics, Economics and Finance at University College London after achieving A*, A*, A in Further Maths, Maths and Physics. Luca Mitchell, who will take a gap year, achieved  A*, A*, A in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.

There was success across the board in a broad range of disciplines. William Philp will study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Manchester University. Will, who felt jubilant today, said that he chose the course because he likes arguing! He says that he worked particularly hard in Y13 and cited Matthew Pearson and Mr Buckman as his inspiration. 

In the creative industries field, Isaac Manz will study Film Production at the Arts University of Bournemouth, after achieving A*, A*, B in Geography, Photography and English Literature and Language. He is excited about learning from industry professionals and wants to thank his teachers, who have been really supportive. Former Head Student, Keira Cox will study Digital Culture and Media at Kings College London after securing A* in Sociology, A in Philosophy and a Distinction in Media BTEC. She was thrilled with her results today. She says that she always expects great things of herself, but hadn’t thought she would do this well. 

In sports, Oscar Gossage will study Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Bath after securing AAA in PE, Maths and Geography. Angela Geere, who achieved A*, A, B  in Biology, PE and English Literature and Language, will also attend the University of Bath to study Sport and Exercise Science. James Palmer has won a Tennis Scholarship to study in the USA after achieving BBB in his subjects. Max Powell, who achieved BCD, will study a degree Apprenticeship with Barclays Bank.

Mr Warren, Head of Sixth Form, said, ‘Today has been a really positive day for our students, with so many of them getting into their first choice university. We are really proud of their achievements.’

Ms Jackson, Headteacher, said: ‘On behalf of all the staff at Hollyfield, I would like to offer my congratulations to all of our students. They have done unbelievably well, secured a plethora of wonderful opportunities and are well placed to go on and enjoy their next steps. We are under no illusions about the amount of hard work needed to secure these results. I will take a moment to offer my congratulations also to the students’ parents who have supported them throughout their time with us. Well done everyone, we can’t wait to hear about your future successes.’

All sixth form external students can enrol on Thursday 21 August 2025 between 12.30pm - 2.30pm or Friday 22 August between 9am - 11am.

The Hollyfield Christmas Concert & Carol Service 2024 is on Thursday 12th December 2024. The Carol Service will start at 6:30 at St Mark’s Church (over the road from school) and finish by 7:30pm. This is a traditional Carol Service featuring the school’s three choirs (Senior Choir, Chamber Choir and Hollyfield Singers).
