The Hollyfield School is proud to report another amazing set of GCSEs and BTEC results. The hard work of the students and their teachers paid off, and in addition to the outstanding success of the cohort as a whole, there were some incredible results for individual students. Gergana Decheva achieved an incredible ten grade 9s. She was feeling overwhelmed but ecstatic today and reflected on five really special years at Hollyfield, where she made lifelong friends. Krithik Kumar and Jessica Cashman each achieved a remarkable eight grade 9s and two 8s. Emily Seglow also absolutely excelled, with ten GCSEs grade 5 and above, including eight grade 9s and one 8. Jack Johnson was awarded seven grade 9s and three 8s, while Morgan Hart-Davis went home with seven grade 9s, two 8s and a 7. Felix Barrett, Neve McDevitt and Elena Vukas each achieved six grade 9s amongst their suite of wonderful results. Felix was delighted with his outcomes, especially achieving 9s in all three sciences. He is staying at Hollyfield next year to study Maths and Economics. Tse Shun Chu, Noah Gallant and Charlie Brewer each achieved five grade 9s and a string of excellent results across the board. Charlie was pleasantly surprised with his results, but had worked really hard and deserves his success.
73.3% of our students achieved five GCSEs at grade 4 or better, including English and Maths, while 58.25% achieved five GCSEs at grade 5 or better, including English and Maths. At GCSE, in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, French, Music and Statistics, over 50% of students achieved grades 7-9 (which would have been A*-A grades in the old system). In Computing, Drama, French, Geography, Music, PE, Spanish and the separate sciences, over 50% of students achieved a grade 6 or better. In English Language, 24% of students achieved grades 7-9 and 44% achieved a grade 6 or higher, while in Maths, 33% of students accomplished grades 7-9 and over 25% achieved a grade 8 or better. In Statistics, PE Music, French, Biology and Chemistry, over 20% of students achieved a grade 9. In Physics, 29% of our students achieved grade 9s, which is an outstanding achievement.
Our BTEC students’ hard work also paid off, as 48% of Music Technology, 57% of Health and Social Care students and a staggering 91% of Media Studies students achieved Merits or Distinctions. In Health and Social Care, 26% achieved Distinction or Distinction* grades, and this figure was 32% for Media Studies.
Ms Paterson, Head of Year 11, shared the following message: 'As Head of Year 11, I could not be prouder of how incredibly well our students have done in their GCSEs and BTECs. Their hard work, resilience and commitment throughout what has been a challenging journey have truly paid off. It’s been a privilege to watch them grow, overcome obstacles and achieve results that reflect both their academic abilities and personal growth. I am filled with pride and admiration for each and every one of them. They’ve done themselves, their families and our school proud.'
Mr Buckman, Assistant Headteacher KS4 said: 'I would like to warmly congratulate all of Year 11 on achieving a fantastic set of results. The hard work and focus that many pupils have put into their studies over the past two years has been justly rewarded and they should be proud of what they have achieved. To the majority of Year 11 who will stay in our Sixth Form, I look forward to welcoming you back in September, and to those who go on to pastures new for the next phase of their education - I wish you all the very best for the future.'
Headteacher, Amy Jackson, said: 'This is an exceptional set of results, the best ever for Hollyfield, and we know they will change lives. We are so proud of the students, a plethora of whom achieved top marks and all of whom achieved grades that will help them in their next steps.'
A Level and BTEC Press Release 2024-2025
Hollyfield Sixth Form has had another spectacular A Level Results Day, with 78% of students achieving A*- C grades at A Level and 49% of students achieving A*-B. There was success in a great breadth of subjects.
In A Level Government and Politics, 67% of grades were A-A*, in Philosophy, 80% of grades were A*-B. and in A Level Maths, 72% of students achieved A*-B grades. In BTEC subjects, 43% students achieved Distinction to Distinction* and 80% achieved Distinction* to Merit. In BTEC Media, 83% students achieved Distinction* or Distinctions which is superb.
There was Oxbridge success again, as Elliott Forey achieved a place at Oxford University to read Law. Elliott secured A*A B, including an A* in Economics. He says that he developed a real interest in politics, philosophy and morality during his A Levels and that he is excited about the chance to study at a top university, with some of the best teachers and lecturers in the world. Elliott wants to thank Mr Warren and Mr Humm for all that they’ve done to support him. Six students have now secured places at Oxford University in the past four years from Hollyfield Sixth Form.
Two students have earned places to study prestigious Medicine courses this year. Heather Augustin, who achieved A*, A, A in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, will study Medicine at Southampton University. Heather said that she feels a little overwhelmed today, but has worked really hard and is delighted with her results (especially the A*). She knows from her work as a volunteer that doctors help the most vulnerable people and can change their lives for the better. Emma Kempster, who achieved grades of AAA in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, will study Medicine at Queen Mary’s University. Emma said that she was drawn to medicine because she likes helping people. She wanted to thank the Sixth Form team and Miss Cunningham, who has taught her Science since Year 7, for helping to make this dream come true.
There was continued success in the STEM subjects, where Magnus Cochrane has won a place at Warwick University to study Mathematics after after achieving A*, A*, A in Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics. Magnus said that studying at Warwick is something of a family tradition. He is proud of the results he achieved, which proved that his hard work and determination paid off. Botond Gracza, will study Statistics, Economics and Finance at University College London after achieving A*, A*, A in Further Maths, Maths and Physics. Luca Mitchell, who will take a gap year, achieved A*, A*, A in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.
There was success across the board in a broad range of disciplines. William Philp will study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Manchester University. Will, who felt jubilant today, said that he chose the course because he likes arguing! He says that he worked particularly hard in Y13 and cited Matthew Pearson and Mr Buckman as his inspiration.
In the creative industries field, Isaac Manz will study Film Production at the Arts University of Bournemouth, after achieving A*, A*, B in Geography, Photography and English Literature and Language. He is excited about learning from industry professionals and wants to thank his teachers, who have been really supportive. Former Head Student, Keira Cox will study Digital Culture and Media at Kings College London after securing A* in Sociology, A in Philosophy and a Distinction in Media BTEC. She was thrilled with her results today. She says that she always expects great things of herself, but hadn’t thought she would do this well.
In sports, Oscar Gossage will study Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Bath after securing AAA in PE, Maths and Geography. Angela Geere, who achieved A*, A, B in Biology, PE and English Literature and Language, will also attend the University of Bath to study Sport and Exercise Science. James Palmer has won a Tennis Scholarship to study in the USA after achieving BBB in his subjects. Max Powell, who achieved BCD, will study a degree Apprenticeship with Barclays Bank.
Mr Warren, Head of Sixth Form, said, ‘Today has been a really positive day for our students, with so many of them getting into their first choice university. We are really proud of their achievements.’
Ms Jackson, Headteacher, said: ‘On behalf of all the staff at Hollyfield, I would like to offer my congratulations to all of our students. They have done unbelievably well, secured a plethora of wonderful opportunities and are well placed to go on and enjoy their next steps. We are under no illusions about the amount of hard work needed to secure these results. I will take a moment to offer my congratulations also to the students’ parents who have supported them throughout their time with us. Well done everyone, we can’t wait to hear about your future successes.’
