Sixth Form Enrichment

We want to enable all of our students to experience not just high quality teaching and learning but also a range of other activities. We run a variety of extra-curricular activities to support the development of our students.

Students are offered on-site activities including football, CSLA (Community Sports Leader Award), mentoring, the Share Investor Competition, Young Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, drama, jazz band and peer support work in classes. The Mandarin Club ahs been very successfull with some of our students reaching the National finals of the Panda Speaking Competition. There are also language/culture clubs for Japanese, Latin and Italian. Some students start and run their own clubs such as cricket and American Football. In addition we run off site activities such as diving, work experience, support language learning in primary schools, seminars, careers fairs, theatre trips and cultural visits. The Sixth Form has established mutually beneficial relationships with the Dysart School and Kingston Age Concern. Our annual RAG week fundraising event is a successful and fun method of raising money for our selected charities.

In order to prepare our young people for life as independent adults, we run a number of PHSCE days each academic year. External specialists deliver information and workshops on issues as wide ranging as finance, study skills, careers advice, personal safety and sexual health

Reading suggestions for Sixth Formers

The reading list is designed to give students a rich and varied choice of novels and authords from the nineteenth century to the present day which, it is hoped, will stimulate their interest outside their area of curriculum study and hence broaden their education in the widest sense.

Literacy is important and students need to develop comprehension skills. This is not simply an English text list as it supports Maths, Science, Economics, Business, Media, History, Politics, Philosopy, Psychology, PE and Drama.

Most of the books listed are available in the public libraries and many of them are available in inexpensive paperback editions. Some are also available, on loan, from the Sixth Form Office and the LRC.
